Heading into the KVOE Drive for Food next week, what does the Salvation Army food pantry need to serve those in need?
Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden, a guest on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday, is expecting heavier-than-normal traffic this fall.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the federal shutdown and impacts on programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP and Women, Infants and Children or WIC, Hadden is asking residents to give more than they have in the past. She’s also asking residents to consider healthy options when they donate.
KVOE is taking addresses for pickups Thursday morning to benefit the Salvation Army food pantry, Emporia High’s Spartan Stop and Emporia State University’s annual “Can the Bods” effort competing against Washburn University. To give us your address, call KVOE at 620-342-1400, email hartere@kvoe.com or message the KVOE Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply text line at 620-342-5863. Several Emporia schools are organizing their connected drives, and there are several drop-off points across Emporia in case that’s a better option for you:
*Bluestem Farm & Ranch Supply – 2611 W. Hwy 50
*Coldwell Banker – 608 Commercial St.
*Country Mart – 1020 Merchant
*ESB Financial – 801 Merchant or 1111 Industrial Rd
*Good’s Cash Saver – 2703 W. Hwy 50
*LCAT – 402 Commercial St. #205
*Newman Regional Health – Entrance C or Entrance F – 1201 W. 12th
Any donation of non-perishable food is welcome, but Hadden has asked residents to avoid donating expired food.
