The Emporia State disc golf team opened up the season this weekend finishing runner-up by one stroke at the Midwest Collegiate Takeover in Illinois on Saturday. The team of T. J. Reel, Isaiah Esquivel, Carter Ahrens, and Micah Tatro finished -29 in the event to lose to a team from the University of Cincinnati by one stroke in the two-day event. The teams were tied at -14 after the team round Saturday. With the showing, ESU has qualified for the D1 Men’s Collegiate Disc Golf National Championships set to begin April 2, 2026 in Rock Hill, S. C. It’s the men’s second runner-up finish of the season after finishing second in the Mid-American Conference Opener hosted by Kansas State in September. ESU returns to action hosting the Mid-American Regional Championships beginning November 9. It will be the second event of the season for the Lady Hornet disc golfers after they won their season-opener in Manhattan in September.
