Lyon County residents with last names beginning with the letter “S” are facing an upcoming deadline.
Friday is the last day to renew vehicle tags and taxes without penalty. Residents need to have a current proof of insurance and a valid Kansas drivers license or state ID.
Regular hours for the Motor Vehicle Office are 8 am to 4:30 pm weekdays. residents can use the QLess system, whether by registering at the Motor Vehicle kiosk, downloading the QLess app or by texting Lyon County Motor Vehicle to 620-254-9998 to reserve spots in line.
The monthly deadline comes ahead of a schedule change for the Motor Vehicle Office. All vehicle title work needs to be finished before 4 pm each day, officially starting Nov. 1. Separately, Nov. 1 is also the official start for the Treasurer’s Office not accepting any credit or debit card payments after 4 pm, meaning payments after 4 pm have to be done by cash, check, money order or cashier’s check.
Treasurer Sharon Gaede will join KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:20 am Wednesday with more information on the upcoming changes.
