One of the key components of KVOE’s annual Drive for Food is the restocking of Emporia High’s Spartan Stop.
USD 253 Student Support Specialist Heather Wagner was “elated” to see the donations come in Thursday.
Spartan Stop offers a range of items, including non-perishable food and household items. Wagner says demand for Spartan Stop items “is absolutely mirroring” recent increases in need seen at food pantries over the past month or so.
KVOE listeners donated over 28,000 items. Many residents left donations at their addresses for pickups by KVOE staffers and volunteers, while others donated through school or business drives and others dropped off their food items at several local businesses.
Donations not dropped off at Spartan Stop were taken to the Salvation Army food pantry and count in the Emporia State “Can the Bods” total in the annual competition against archrival Washburn.
