The USD 252 Southern Lyon County Board of Education has a special meeting ahead Monday evening.
Two topics are listed, both revolving around the Olpe Fitness Park project. Board members will consider approval of a donation from the Fitness Park Committee before possibly awarding a construction bid for the stadium component of the overall project.
In August, board members voted 4-3 to give the project $600,000 in capital outlay funds, but the committee will be responsible for covering any project costs over $2.5 million. Phase 1 work began earlier this year and involves the stadium, including a field, eight-lane track, bleachers, press box and fencing. The start of a fitness trail is also part of Phase 1. Phase 2 fundraising is also underway for the rest of the fitness trail, as well as a multipurpose building and a long-sought splash pad.
The special meeting is at 7 pm at the board office in Hartford.
With this meeting planned Monday, the Fitness Park Committee has also set the date for its Green Machine Gala benefit — Valentine’s Day at the Olpe Knights of Columbus Hall. Once again, the evening will include cocktails, a silent and live auction, steak dinner and dance.
