A Missouri woman suffered minor injuries after a crash near the Lyon-Coffey county line late Tuesday night.
Lyon County Deputy Jim Baker says the crash developed around 10:45 pm on Interstate 35 near the Kansas Highway 130 exit. Baker says the driver of a southbound SUV, 56-year-old Louanna Holmes of Columbia, Missouri, was exiting the highway and looked back at her dog, which was in a kennel in the back seat. In the process, she veered into a refrigerator semi that was legally parked on the right side of the offramp. Holmes’ SUV hit the side of the trailer as well as the tandem’s wheel.
Holmes was treated on scene and released. The semi driver, 33-year-old Jamey Lee Shelton of Yucca Valley, California, was not hurt.
Deputies responded, as did Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire and Emporia Fire/EMS.
