An Emporia man suffered potentially serious injuries after crashing in east Chase County on Tuesday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before noon on US Highway 50 just east of YY Road, or about a mile east-northeast of Saffordville and about eight miles west of Emporia’s western city limits. Troopers say 80-year-old Robert Hutchins was westbound on US-50, driving a pickup that was pulling a trailer. The truck veered off the highway for unlisted reasons and hit a concrete drain.
Hutchins was taken to Newman Regional Health afterward. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
