The 20th year of Unbound Gravel is now officially underway.
Saturday morning, Unbound representatives hosted a backyard bash at Merchant Cycles to celebrate the closing of the Unbound Lottery and the official start of the two-decade mark for the world’s largest gravel bike race. The morning began with some foggy conditions, which added to the excitement for Unbound Marketing Manager Kristi Mohn.
Approximately 300 individuals signed up to take part in the day of activities, which included a breakfast, group rides, food trucks, prize giveaways and an after-party at Mulready’s Pub. Unbound Race Director Sean Thurman says it was important for race organizers to celebrate this milestone year with the community, as without them, Unbound would not be the global event that it is today.
As for what else is coming down the road over the course of the next several months to commemorate two decades of Unbound, Mohn didn’t offer specifics; however, she said the plan is to do everything bigger and grander than ever before.
The 20th annual Unbound Gravel series of races and related activities will take place in Emporia, May 28-31. For more information on upcoming activities ahead of the main event, be sure to visit unboundgravel.com.
