The Emporia State women’s basketball team took control of the game with a big second quarter on the way to an 84-61 victory over Southwest Baptist at the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Mo. on Tuesday night. Each team started slow with SBU in front 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Gracie Gilpin went off with six three-pointers in the second quarter as part of a 20-4 ESU run that put E-State in front for good. The Lady Hornets lengthened the lead with a 15-3 run in the third quarter and led by as many as 29 in the game. Gilpin finished with 22 points and matched her career high of six three’s and knew she was on fire.
Head coach MJ Baker picked up her first career win with the Lady Hornets and knew that Gilpin was ready to go off.
Kaitlin Sanders added 22 for ESU. Macy Gandee tacked on 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double. Kaylin Noonan scored a personal best nine points with a career-high five rebounds like Lexsey DeWitt had a career-high six points. ESU (1-2) returns home to host Missouri S&T Saturday.
