The Little Free Library is expanding locally thanks to Flint Hills Technical College
According to a news release from the college, FHTC will be adding two locations in addition to its current location just outside of the Metcalf Education Center, which opened in May. The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization with more than 200,000 small book exchanges around the world, designed to help increase literacy through access to books and literature.
Library and Academic Resource Center Coordinator for FHTC Liberty Worthen says the expansion of two new sites is a proud moment for the center, calling the partnership with Little Free Library a privilege to be a part of.
Worthen also says the expansion reflects the college’s commitment to ensuring that they are not only promoting literacy among their students and on campus, but also in Emporia, noting that all the locations are open to the entire community.
The new locations can be found at the FHTC South Campus, 3701 W. Sixth Ave and the FHTC Adult Education Center, 620 Constitution St.
The Little Free Library organization has been recognized by the Library of Congress and the American Library Association for its work around the globe and was named one of the “50 Surprising Things We Love About America” by Reader’s Digest.
