The Emporia State volleyball team couldn’t bounce back from a lengthy first set in a 33-31, 25-18, 25-21 loss to #8 Central Oklahoma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Mo. on Thursday. Neither team had greater than a three-point lead in the first, but the Lady Hornets couldn’t convert on five set points. The Bronchos rolled out of the gates in set two stampeding to a 6-0 lead and ESU never got closer than four after that. The Lady Hornets tried to rally in the third with a 6-2 run to start the set, but the ‘Chos answered with an 8-3 spurt to take a 10-9 lead. ESU battled for a 19-16 lead but gave up six-straight points as the ‘Chos eliminated ESU from the postseason for the second-straight season. Senior Camilla Ossola led ESU with 13 kills in her final match as a Lady Hornet. Emporia State wraps up the season 21-7.
