Christmas is just over a month away, and local activities for the holiday are starting to get announced.
Already with the annual Christmas Parade on Dec. 2, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce says the Sensory Block will return to the 400 block of Commercial as part of that event. Last year was the debut for the Sensory Block, which involves all parade entries turning off their lights, no flashing or strobe effects, no music, no music and no amplified sound.
Before that, the Chamber has its “Letters to Santa” mailbox opening Dec. 1. Families can bring their children’s letters to the Chamber office, 719 Commercial, where a special North Pole Mailbox will be stationed outside the Chamber’s front door.
Separately, the Emporia Public Library has its annual Breakfast With Santa at the library on Dec. 6. Families can enjoy a special visit from both Santa and Mrs Claus, as well as a light breakfast and music. Every child attending the event will also receive a free book.
