The Emporia State basketball team held off a late Lincoln run to beat the Blue Tigers 92-90 at Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo. on Saturday. Lincoln started well but ESU used a 13-3 run to take a 12-point lead with just under eight minutes to go in the first half. ESU led by 13 late, but the Blue Tigers scored the last five of the first half in a span of under 30 seconds to trim their deficit to 46-38 at the break. ESU led for the duration of the second frame and pulled in front by 13 with just over seven to go, but LU chipped back into the game and used an 8-1 run to cut the deficit to two with just over a minute to go, but the Hornet made free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Head coach Tom Billeter said the team needed to bounce back after its tough loss Wednesday.
Redshirt sophomore forward Chris Harris says the reset is complete.
Andrew Pengel led four Hornets in double figures with 19 points. Dallas Bear added 13 while Harris chipped in 12 with 6 rebounds. Olafur Styrmisson scored nine points and matched his career high with seven rebounds. ESU (2-2) returns to action after the Thanksgiving break with a two game road trip to Oklahoma starting Friday at Oklahoma Baptist.
