The Kansas Highway Patrol says an Illinois man was killed in the semi wreck at the Kansas Turnpike Emporia exit early Monday.
Troopers say 64-year-old Pedro Ocampo of Berwyn, Illinois, was southbound and in the process of using the onramp to get from Interstate 35 to the Turnpike when the wreck happened just before 12:15 am. Troopers say Ocampo entered the onramp curve too fast, sending his semi down into the west-side ditch. The semi overturned after hitting three posts.
Emporia Fire/EMS took Ocampo to Newman Regional Health, where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers have not said what may have been in Ocampo’s load.
