Prison is next for an educator who spent time in Emporia before he was arrested.
Following a plea agreement reached last month, Howard Pitler was sentenced to 19 months for each of two counts of indecent solicitation that were part of the plea.
Pitler was arrested late last year after an incident in February 2023.
Pitler was nationally recognized for his education work while at USD 259, including Kansas Principal of the Year in 1997, National Distinguished Principal in 1999, Apple Distinguished Educator and Smithsonian Laureate.
Pitler taught at Emporia State University from 2018 to October 2024 serving as an associate professor of school leadership, middle and secondary teacher education.
