Now that the turkey torpor has passed, it’s just about time to shop ’til you drop.
As usual, the holiday shopping season is set to open full blast with Black Friday deals all over the place. In Emporia, that leads directly into Small Business Saturday, and Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says downtown merchants are waiting with open arms — and open doors.
Also ready for the holiday season: Chase County with the annual Country Christmas on Friday and Saturday. Chase County Chamber Director Toni Schneider encourages families to get thing started with the Kid’s Night Before Christmas from 6-8 pm Friday at the 1900 Theater.
Saturday’s activity list is full, with an art and craft fair at Strong City’s St Anthony Church parish hall overlapping a host of events in Cottonwood Falls, including brunch at Harshman Creek, the Prairie PastTimes open house and guided tours of the Historic Chase County Courthouse. The Chase County Old School Development District also has a silent auction, concessions and a chili feed at 518 Third in Cottonwood Falls, according to spokesperson Lee Anne Coester. While encouraging people to help ongoing fundraising for the project, Coester says she enjoys the overall atmosphere provided by the Country Christmas.
The Chase County Country Christmas ends with a visit by Cowboy Santa at 4 pm, the holiday lighting of the Courthouse at 6 pm and the parade immediately afterward.
