The same Kansas Tourism grant program setting the stage for Wabaunsee County to pursue World Cup attendees next year is allowing Coffey and Osage counties to work together to develop a highway tourism corridor.
Coffey and Osage counties are splitting over $5,800 to flesh out a tourism corridor along US Highway 75 as part of an effort called “Drive 75.” Coffey County’s plan include highlighting attractions up and down the highway and also, at least for now, folding its new visitcoffeycounty.com website into the effort after collaborative work by Coffey County Economic Development, the Coffey County Chamber of Commerce and the Coffey County Tourism and Visitors Board. Coffey County Economic Development Director Jenny Tatman sees opportunities in agritourism, outdoor recreation and “niche” attractions.
Wabaunsee County, meanwhile, is developing a targeted campaign to inform World Cup spectators about Flint Hills attractions with the World Cup in Kansas City in June and July.
