With a new leader named, Emporia State University now turns its attention to another celebration.
Winter commencement activities take place Friday evening and Saturday morning at White Auditorium. Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School Jerald Spotswood says almost 350 students are eligible for graduate degrees, up 3 percent from last year. Spotswood says graduate degrees are increasingly needed in today’s competitive workforce.
Assistant Vice President for Student Success Sheila Markowitz says over 200 undergraduates are eligible for degrees Saturday. She also reminded attendees of the preferred traffic flow getting into White Auditorium.
Accessibility seating will be on the floor and scattered on the second-floor concourse.
Ceremonies for graduate students will start at 6 pm Friday, while activities for undergraduate students begin at 9:30 am Saturday. Doors open 90 minutes before the ceremonies, which will feature remarks by Kansas Board of Regents member Alycia Johnston. ESU Roe R Cross Distinguished Professor John Decker will speak at the undergraduate ceremonies.
Commencement exercises follow Thursday’s Kansas Board of Regents on-campus vote to select Dr Matthew Baker, Northwest Missouri State’s vice president of student affairs, as Emporia State’s next president. Baker is set to begin on campus March 2.
