The Emporia State women’s basketball team led throughout the second half on the way to a 74-64 win over Lincoln on Sunday at White Auditorium. The first quarter was tight with neither team leading by more than one possession and the game was tied at 11 after 10 minutes. ESU used a 15-3 run to build a double-digit lead in the second quarter and led by eight at the half. ESU then went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter to build the lead as high as 19. Lincoln clawed back into the game at the free throw line in the fourth but ESU held them off to go to 5-0 at home this season. Head coach MJ said ESU’s defense triggered their offense in their big runs.
Micah Hannah scored a career-high nine points and had a personal best three steals and said she’s been focused on her defense.
Gracie Gilpin led the Lady Hornets with 21 points and hit five three’s in the game while Kaitlyn Sanders added 18. Kaylin Noonan grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds while Macy Gandee scored nine points with 11 rebounds. ESU (6-3) returns to action Wednesday hosting Bellevue. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
