Nobody was hurt after a confirmed gas leak in southeast Emporia on Tuesday.
Emporia Fire was first dispatched to the 400 block of West Second shortly after 10 am, followed soon after by Kansas Gas. Firefighters evacuated at least half a dozen homes near the site and told students at Sacred Heart Elementary to shelter in place for a brief time.
Emporia Fire says an IdeaTek contractor punctured a gas line as the internet provider continues building its network across the city.
