Lyon County’s firing range and Emergency Communications facility could take a procedural step forward at the County Commission action meeting Thursday.
Zoning and Floodplain Administrator Sam Seeley will present a recommendation of approval for a zoning change at 2985 West South from Heavy Industrial to Civic/Public. If approved, that will set the stage for significant construction to begin as the county looks to have the law enforcement firing range ready by spring 2026, thus meeting terms of federal funding announced last year.
Numerous other items are on the agenda for Thursday:
*County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield will present two financial items for approval, a $31,000 bid from Welborn Sales for bridge deck work, a $23,000 geotechnical engineering services proposal from Cook Flatt and Strobel Engineers. Scritchfield will also present a request to revise load restrictions for two unspecified bridges
*County Controlled Dan Williams will request authority to encumber the 2025 audit at nearly $35,000 for Agler and Gaeddert Chartered
*Emergency Communications Director Roxanne Van Gundy will request approval to pay the city third of a Motorola server migration and ArcGIS update at a cost of over $33,000
*Sheriff’s Office representative Tobey Kelley will request approval to pay Motorola for a camera system
*Public Information Officer Vici Smith will discuss tentative plans for social media management and archiving
The county’s annual employee recognition is also planned.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the County Courthouse.
