Emporia girls basketball dropped their final game of 2025 58-49 to Liberal in Emporia on Friday.
The Lady Spartans opened on a 16-2 run and took a 16-7 advantage at the end of the first. The Redskins continued their 5-0 run into the second and outscored Emporia 21-9 to take the lead into half, 28-25. Liberal went up 39-33 heading into the fourth. EHS got within three in the fourth, 44-41 but never got closer.
Assistant coach Brett Stewart loved the start of the game.
Outside of the second quarter, he was happy with the game.
Kaylee DeWitt had a game high 22 points. Maycee Davis added 13.
The Lady Spartans drop to 3-4.
Emporia returns to action on Friday, January 2 hosting Circle.
Emporia boys basketball knocked off Liberal 66-34 in Emporia on Friday
The Spartans started hot and ran to a 25-11 lead after one. Rylan Crowell scored 17 first half to help EHS to a 43-21 lead at half. A 17-8 third quarter grew the advantage to 31 after three.
Crowell finished with 27. Tying his career high and he loves being aggressive early.
Harry Trelc added 14 while Terrick Franklin had 12.
Head coach Evan Burns credits the strong start to being prepared.
The Spartans improve to 7-0.
Emporia returns to action on Friday, January 2 hosting Circle.
