The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Commission will start its 2026 meeting schedule in Council Grove.
Board members have several items up for discussion, including whether to down list the broad-headed skink, northern map turtle and shoal chub from threatened species to “species in need of conservation,” as well as whether to increase quotas for either-sex elk permits.
Other business next month includes the annual random draw for the Commission Big Game permits for eligible non-profit organizations, with updates on the Walk-In Hunting Access program and 2026 waterfowl hunting season information to follow.
The meeting will be at noon Jan. 8 at the Territory Ballroom.
