There has been no measurable rainfall all month, but the US Drought Monitor doesn’t currently show any deepening of drought issues — yet.
Wednesday’s update has abnormally dry conditions in far north and southeast Lyon County, as well as much or all of Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties. The map is virtually identical to the Drought Monitor updates the last two weeks.
The last measurable rainfall at KVOE was 0.60 inches on Nov. 30. No rain is currently expected through at least New Year’s Day.
The Kansas Water Office has Lyon and most surrounding counties — Chase County the exception — in a drought watch until further notice, indicating chances of water shortages are rising with more below-normal precipitation possible the rest of the winter.
