Lyon County commissioners will ring in the new year with an action meeting.
Commissioners are meeting Friday, and one of their discussion items is a presentation from County Counselor Molly Priest on potential participation in the state’s Rural Opportunity Zone program. Lyon County, along with Osage County, are in the tax credit-only program, meaning there are 100-percent state income tax credits for new full-time residents. All other area counties — Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee — offer full tax credits for new full-time residents while also offering assistance on student loans. Lyon County’s involvement in the student loan repayment half of the program ended this past June.
Separately on Friday, County Controller Dan Williams will present a resolution to waive the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles requirements for 2026. Human Resources Director Alicia Rumold will request approval to pay the estimated workers compensation premium to Kansas Workers Risk Cooperative for Counties at an estimated cost above $260,000. Two executive sessions are planned, both for non-elected personnel matters.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
