Echoing statements from 17th District Kansas Senator Mike Argabright from a day earlier, Kansas House 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber says he is anticipating a quick legislative session this year.
Schreiber’s comments came as part of KVOE’s second legislative preview on KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday where Schreiber also stated that, like Argabright, the most common talking point between himself and constituents has been on the subject of property taxes. Schreiber says it is a difficult topic to try and tackle “quickly,” however, he is encouraged by the “freshman” list of legislators making their way to the capital building this year and the new ideas and conversations they may bring towards the topic in the coming weeks.
There has been some discussion previously on eliminating statewide property tax levies for education and replacing them with direct transfers from the general fund, which could provide some relief for taxpayers. This is a prospect Schreiber says could be problematic.
Speaking of education, Schreiber has been a longtime supporter of fully funding special education across the state, and when asked if he feels that prospect could see any positive progress this session, he says it is “very doubtful.”
A matter that some expect will be a major topic right at the start of the session is the subject of redistricting, a topic Schreiber frankly says he does not expect to be seen in the House.
As for the state budget, Schreiber says reductions will likely be a primary focus for lawmakers, adding he expects a tight budget with more cuts being made in the coming months. As it pertains to Medicaid expansion, much like in recent years, Schreiber says he does not anticipate much movement on that front; however, he does expect some conversations on energy and data centers, a topic he feels needs to have more awareness among lawmakers.
As for committee appointments this session, Schreiber will again be serving on the Legislative Modernization, Energy Utilities and Telecom, Education and Judiciary committees. The 2026 legislative session, which begins Monday, will be Schreiber’s 10th as a member of the House of Representatives.

KVOE will conclude its series of legislative previews Wednesday at 7:20 am with second-year 76th District Representative Brad Barrett.
