Three meetings in one are coming for the Emporia City Commissioners Wednesday.
The commission’s first action agenda of the new year will include consideration of a contract with Crossland Construction for the approved remodel at Emporia Fire Station 2 for just over $6.2 million, with allowances totaling $149,278 and contractor contingency of just over $136,000. Commissioners could also approve costs outside of Crossland’s contract of $200,000 for fixtures, furniture and equipment.
Commissioners will also consider approving the appointment of Nadia Qureshi to the Natural Resources Advisory Board and a resolution authorizing certain public improvements for the Aerial Fire Truck and Fire Station 2.
Following their action meeting, commissioners will convene for an executive session and then adjourn sine die to move into their annual business meeting, where they will elect the city’s mayor and vice mayor, approve surety bonds for the city manager, clerk and treasurer, designate the Emporia Gazette as the official city paper and designate financial institutions.
The meeting will also see the swearing in of new commissioners Monica Duncan, Tammi Ogle and Kurt Steinkuhler.
Following the business meeting, commissioners will move into their regular study session with the city’s legislative policy statement, commission appointments to various community boards and the appointment of commission liaisons and commissioners for board interviews being the main topics of focus.
The series of meetings will begin at 11 am inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
