If you noticed the early removal of Christmas tree disposal bins across Emporia recently, there was a reason, according to new Emporia Solid Waste Supervisor Tina Weeks.
Weeks says the department will be taking steps to make the proper use of the tree disposal bins more widely known for the coming holiday season. Speaking of the holidays, Weeks says traffic was up at the Lyon County Transfer Station over the Christmas period; however, community trash collections were down slightly.
Christmas tree collections were also low, likely due in part to the early removal of the disposal bins, with less than a quarter ton of trees collected.
Weeks is still settling into her new role as Solid Waste Supervisor after recently replacing Keith Senn. While she may be new to the role, she is not new to the department as Weeks has spent the last 23 years at the transfer station.
