Newman Regional Health’s cardiovascular lab has received re-accreditation through the American College of Cardiology.
A news release from the hospital Thursday, announced the lab received reaccreditation for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). The PCI program, led by Interventional Cardiologists Dr. Michael Lloyd and Colleen Fearon, provides specialized minimally invasive catheter-based procedures such as angioplasty and stenting.
In the aforementioned news release, Dr. Lloyd says the program and the services it provides are an important responsibility, especially in rural settings, saying, “Data shows that heart disease in rural communities is double that of urban areas. Rural doesn’t equal second best. We don’t let good enough be good enough. The standard is the standard—and the standard is excellence.”
Lloyd would also express pride in the accomplishment before also reaffirming the department’s commitment to continued improvement, saying, “We stand proud of our accomplishments, yet remain focused on what’s next.”
Newman CEO Cathy Pimple also expressed her pride in the department, saying, ” I remain deeply impressed by our cardiovascular lab team—their energy, knowledge, and engagement create a culture that puts patients first and ensures the highest standard of care. We have it all right here at home in Emporia, and I am profoundly grateful.”
Thursday’s announcement follows the hospital’s re-accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care in December.
