Energize Lebo is understandably charged up as work begins to bring a new pool to the community over the course of the next year.
During an interview on KVOE’s Morning Show Friday, Amanda Hopkins of Energize Lebo announced they recently “solidified a contractor” for demolishing the current pool with utility work hopefully beginning soon on the new pool’s location.
The new pool, which will trade space with the community softball field once construction is complete, will include a zero-entry, a gradual slope from the surrounding deck into the water, making it more accessible to residents of all ages. Hopkins says the current pool was originally meant to be in service for about 30 years; however, it has managed to span closer to 50. Hopkins says the pool’s longevity highlights the care the Lebo community has for its facilities and quality of life.
The pool project follows the installation of an updated playground for the community two years ago and is part of a larger “multigenerational facility” initiative that will also see a new sports complex in the future. Hopkins says while there will be no swim season for 2026, plans are to have the new facility open and operational well ahead of the 2027 season.
Given the success Energize Lebo has had in breathing new life into Lebo’s parks and recreation, Hopkins stated Friday that the non-profit is planning to “tweak” its mission somewhat over the course of the year to focus more attention on enhancing the overall community rather than just one specific sector. She says current discussions towards that end have been focused on adding new events and activities to the community calendar in the near future.
