Nearing four-and-a-half months since he disappeared, Dickinson County officials are still looking for James Cole — as well as any clues into where he went and why.
Cole has been missing since Aug. 31, when he started using the Flint Hills Nature Trail at Herington with no food, jacket or water in his possession. The trail went cold in southwest Morris County near Burdick less than a week after he was listed as missing. Authorities have said Cole has family in Emporia but it is still unclear whether he was traveling here when he disappeared. The Council Grove Police Department says authorities believe Cole may have had a handgun with him.
Cole, age 24, is a white male, 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
