Two vehicles collided on the Kansas Turnpike in northern Lyon County on Wednesday, sending one driver to the hospital for treatment afterward.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 2:15 pm at mile marker 144.4 northbound, less than three miles from the Admire gate and 17 miles northeast of the Emporia gate. Troopers say car driven by 21-year-old Allyiah Schlichte of Muscatine, Iowa, and a box truck driven by 29-year-old Maksym Proniv of Opelika, Alabama, were both northbound. Initially, Schlichte’s car was in the inside lane and the Proniv truck was in the outside lane. Proniv changed lanes and Schlichte rear-ended the truck.
Schlichte was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Proniv was not hurt.
