Emporia girls wrestling competed Wednesday and Thursday at the 5th Annual Newton Girls Tournament of Champions in Newton. The Lady Spartans finished fifth as a team out of 34 schools.
Alexa Castillo returned from injury for her first competition at 170 pounds. The 5A gold medal winner at 235 took home silver Thursday.
Kensley Medrano lost her first match of the season in the semifinal and regrouped to win the third place match. Chloe Steele (100) and Sienna Spaulding (105) each took home fourth. Yaneli Carranza finished sixth at 145.
EHS returns to the mat on Saturday, January 24 at the Olathe South Tournament.
