Organizers of Emporia’s effort to bring The Wall That Heals to town last year have another reason to celebrate.
Organizers say they received the grand prize in the Pay it Forward effort involving DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers and TV-13, a $2,500 grant. The Wall That Heals was one of nearly 30 different nonprofits and community groups that had won $500 grants for being featured during the Pay it Forward segments on TV-13 last year. All the groups that won $500 grants were eligible for the grand prize, which was determined by an online vote.
The Wall That Heals is a mobile replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington that also includes a traveling education center. The wall appeared in Emporia for nearly a week back in August.
Organizers say they will use those funds to bolster future veteran events.
