The director of Stormont Vail’s clinic in west Emporia says she is honored to lead the way as construction looms ahead later this year.
Kelsey Meyer was named as clinic director earlier this month with the start of construction still several weeks away. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Wednesday, Meyer says she was basically born in to the medical field.
Construction could last two years. Once the new building opens near West 18th and Road G, Meyer says it will feature several different medical services, many of which are already operating as part of the Cotton O’Neil Clinic.
Meyer also believes the new facility will help expand current services once it opens to the public in 2028.
Meyer says Stormont Vail administrators saw the population trend shifting east to west for years before deciding on the west Emporia location.
Meyer, an Emporia native and a member of the Emporia State soccer team while attending classes, says she is also excited about the brand-new Nursing + Student Wellness Center opening to students earlier this week. She also says Stormont Vail will continue to work with Newman Regional Health after vacating its current space.
Meyer says the west Emporia facility, which carries an estimated cost of $45 million, reflects the Stormont Vail commitment to the high-quality care and medical technology for the community. As it finalized planning and zoning matters with the city of Emporia last summer, Stormont Vail also announced a $1.5 million contributions to the DeBauge Family Sports Complex essentially next door as part of a larger health park plan. Meyer says that investment reflects Stormont’s commitment to the area.
Meyer will oversee day-to-day operations and will work with both providers and local civic leaders as Stormont builds its presence in and around Emporia.
