The MIAA & GAC released their 2026 preseason tennis polls on Thursday. The Emporia State women were picked sixth in the MIAA Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll while the Hornets were picked second in the MIAA/GAC Men’s Tennis Preseason Poll. The Lady Hornets went 10-10 last season for their most wins since winning 10 duals in 2014. It was ESU’s first appearance in the MIAA Tournament since 2022. Giovanna Ferreira is the leading returner with seven singles wins last year. The Hornets finished 11-7 last year and was their second-straight season with 10 or more wins. Anton Sarunic finished last year ranked #24 in the ITA and was eighth in the region in singles while the doubles team of Gwendal Mazuay and Alexis Mattenberger also finished eighth in the region. Washburn was picked to win the MIAA/GAC North Division and was the top team in the MIAA preseason women’s poll. The E-State women open the spring portion of their schedule February 7 hosting Ottawa at the Kossover Tennis Complex while the men begin February 3 at home hosting Kansas Wesleyan.
