The Emporia State baseball team shutout Adams State to win its season opener at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. 8-0 on Friday. ESU opened the year scoring off a groundball in the second inning. Brady Unrein and Dylan Brisbois each drove in runs with singles in the fourth to extend the lead before Brisbois delivered again with an RBI single in the sixth. Nathon Cruz doubled home two runs in the seventh before Brisbois scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. The Hornets plated one final run on a fielder’s choice to wrap up the shutout. Brisbois finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Cruz and Unrein each finished with a pair of hits. Seth Stover (1-0) went five innings and gave up just three hits to pick up the win. Quinton Chindamo and Graeme Rios combined to give up two hits in four scoreless innings of relief. ESU (1-0) returns to action Saturday with a game against Minot State at 12:00 p.m. and a nightcap against Adams State at 7:00 p.m.
