The Emporia State baseball team scored nine runs in the sixth to complete an eight-run comeback and beat Minot State 13-12 at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sunday. The Hornets found themselves in a 7-1 hole after the first and trailed 10-2 after the fifth. The E-State bats woke up in the top of the sixth for their fifth inning of the weekend of at least five runs. The crooked number on the scoreboard was highlighted by a Brady Unrein double and a Sammy Padilla triple which each drove in two. The Beavers got one back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 11, but ESU snatched the lead back with two more runs in the seventh. The Beavers scored again in the bottom of the seventh but were retired in order in the eighth and ninth to end the game. Evan Abbott and Noah Steele each had three-hit games while Unrein went 2-for-3 with a game-high three runs, two RBIs, and three walks. Graeme Rios (1-0) gave up three hits and two runs in 1.1 innings but was awarded the win while Grant Huffman (1) tossed 2.2 innings of shutout relief to end the game and pick up his first save of the year. E-State (4-0) will head to Edmond, Okla. on Thursday for the first of three games in the Edmond First Pitch Tournament.
