Emporia basketball was swept by Topeka Tuesday night in Emporia.
In the boy’s contest, The Trojans grabbed the 59-50 win
A back and fourth first quarter saw EHS lead 14-13. Topeka took the lead and built an eight point advantage at half 28-20. The Trojans extended their lead to 44-31 after three.
Rylan Crowell had a team high 20 and Terrick Franklin added 16.
Evan Burns said Topeka wanted the game more.
The Spartans drop to 13-3 (2-1) and will travel to Manhattan on Friday.
The girl’s contest went to Topeka 63-38.
Topeka jumped out to a fast start, scoring the game’s first eight points, but EHS responded late in the opening quarter with a 9–2 run to pull within 10–9. The Lady Trojans took control in the second period, outscoring the Lady Spartans 20–5 to build a 30–14 halftime lead. EHS showed fight in the third quarter, using a 9–0 run to cut the deficit to eight, but could not get closer. TPS steadied itself and carried a 41–29 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Bill Nienstedt’s team couldn’t accomplish all of the pregame keys of the game.
Kaylee DeWitt led Emporia with 17 points. Jayde Aguirre added ten.
EHS falls to 6-10 (0-3). The Lady Spartans travel to Manhattan on Friday.
