Burlingame and Chase County split the girl/boy doubleheader on Friday in Burlingame.
The Bearcats got off to a quick start taking a 7-6 lead in the first quarter before Chase County went on a nine to nothing run to end the quarter, capped off by a half-court shot by Lynaea Reins to give the Lady Bulldogs a 15 to 7 lead. They extended their lead to 35 to 17 at the half. Chase County cruised in the second half and walked away with a 62 to 41 victory over Burlingame.
The Chase County Lady Bulldogs welcomed Madelyn Wilson back to their line-up. Madelyn has missed the entire season due to an injury suffered this fall. The Class 2A All-Stater entered the game to a rousing ovation from the Bulldog faithful in the first minute of the game against the Burlingame Lady Bearcats in Burlingame
Clayton Happy said his team is playing their best basketball of the season.
Chase County was lead by Lynaea Reins with 16 points, Maggie Peters had 15, while Madelyn Wilson had 13. Burlingame was lead by Harper Seeley with 11 points.
The boys game was a back-and-forth affair through the first half with Chase County going into the locker room at halftime with a 20 to 19 lead. They extended the lead to 36 to 28 after the 3rd Quarter. They extended the lead to 40 to 34 early in the fourth when Burlingame started the comeback and tied the game at 40 on a three-point basket from Cash Roberts. Drake Skirvin scored 8 of his 19 points in the 4th quarter and Burlingame pulled away with a 46 to 40 victory over Chase County.
The defense fueled the comeback for Stetson Carpenter’s squad.
Burlingame had 2 players in double figures, Skirvin had 19 while Nazhir Austin had 12. Chase County had 3 players in double figures, Guthrie Danford with 14 while Wyatt Griffin and Maddux Beyer each had 11.
