Lyon County’s best spellers are gathering in Emporia on Thursday.
The Lyon County Spelling Bee is at the Humanitarian Center in downtown Emporia, with registration beginning at 9 am and opening activities around 9:45 am. Thirty students from grades 5-8 will participate. North Lyon County Elementary/Junior High is officially the host school.
The winner will advance to the state spelling bee March 21 at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. The Scripps National Spelling Bee will be May 26-28 in Washington, DC.
