A new open records policy was the only actionable item addressed by the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Friday morning.
At the top of their monthly meeting, board members approved the policy, which, prior to said action, was nonexistent for the local economic development entity. Board Chairman Brad Kraft tells KVOE News the board decided to draft the policy after recent records requests, noting they had no proper process in place on how to handle said requests.
According to Kraft, the policy has been shaped after the Emporia City Commission’s own policy with some minor adjustments; however, he did not elaborate on said adjustments other than to say the policy will hold them to the Kansas Open Records Act requirements.

Following this action, the board moved into the first of two executive sessions, which, combined, lasted 60 minutes, with no action taken. No public discussions were held on the now two-year-old search for a new permanent RDA President.
The RDA Board will next convene for its regular monthly meeting in March.
