A visit by US Senator Jerry Moran to Flint Hills Technical College is expected sometime in the next few weeks.
When that visit will take place is still to be determined; however, the reason for his visit has to do with a recently announced $320,000 allocation to the college. FHTC President Dr. Caron Daugherty made the announcement Friday morning following the monthly Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board of Directors meeting.
The Federal dollars, according to Daugherty, will be used to purchase new robotics training equipment that will allow the college to provide “individualized training” for its various industry partners.
Daugherty says the training the college currently provides, coupled with the quality of training the new technology will provide, will help them continue to keep the local workforce local.
As mentioned, full details are still being formulated as it pertains to Senator Moran’s visit to Emporia and a formal announcement of the allocation, which KVOE News will have updates on once they’re made available. While a separate matter, this is still the latest in a growing list of allocation announcements made by the college over the last several months, after various local entities have stepped up to support the college’s ongoing Advancing Tomorrow Capital Campaign, supporting the construction of a new Advanced Industry Education Center.
It also follows a donation of a 2013 Pathfinder from Nissan USA to the college’s Automotive Technology department last September.
