Evan Abbott smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning and the Hornets nipped #23 Metro State Denver 5-4 at the Steve Anson Classic at Falley Field in Topeka. The Hornets got on the board first on a Roadrunner throwing error before Cooper Schwindt delivered an RBI on a single up the middle. MSU Denver plated three on a homer in the fourth and scored again in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead before Abbott delivered the go ahead shot. Jake Khasempanth (2-0) gave up a run on a walk in his inning of work but was awarded the win. Grant Huffman (2) worked scattered two hits in two innings of relief to pick up the save. ESU (7-1) returns to action in the capital city Saturday facing Sioux Falls.
