Rancher and business owner Don Coover wants to bring a no-nonsense, solutions-driven approach to Congress if he’s elected.
The Galesburg Democrat met with voters at Gravel City Roasters on Tuesday before a similar visit with constituents in Osage City. Coover tells KVOE News the country is on the wrong track and federal leaders are shirking some of their Constitutional responsibilities.
Coover is an Army veteran, serving in Korea in aviation intelligence and cryptographic operations. He is also a veterinarian and the owner of both a working ranch and a beef cattle genetics company. Coover says those experiences have helped to set his approach, whether it relates to business or policy.
On policy, Coover wants to reverse the impacts of higher grocery prices on the general public and tariffs on agriculture, as well as healthcare concerns — like Medicaid and access in rural areas. He’s also running so government runs as he feels it should, based on the Constitution.
Coover also wants to bring a sense of decorum back to Congress.
Coover is hoping to unseat Republican Derek Schmidt. He currently faces a primary against Braeden Curwick. Schmidt is running unopposed.
