Power has been restored to more than 1,000 Evergy customers following a power outage affecting most of the downtown Emporia corridor Wednesday evening.
The outage first developed right around 7:30 pm affecting customers from 12th and Commercial to just past Road 155 north to south and from Southeast Street to South Neosho east to west according to the Evergy outage map. Power was restored shortly before 9 pm.
An official cause of the outage has not been given, however, initial indications have pointed to a transformer that malfunctioned near South Commercial.

Evergy and Emporia Fire are in the process of restoring power to more than 1,000 customers Wednesday evening.
The outage developed around 7:30 pm affecting customers from 12th and Commercial to just past Road 155 north to south and from Southeast Street to South Neosho east to west according to the Evergy outage map. The outage has also disabled traffic lights at 6th and Merchant, 7th and Merchant, and 6th and Commercial.
Drivers are asked to exercise caution at uncontrolled intersections. A cause for the outage is currently pending; however, initial indications point to a blown transformer in the downtown area.
The estimated restoration time is 9 pm according to Evergy.
