Emporia High basketball fell in their Senior Night games with Manhattan on Tuesday.
In the girl’s game, the Indians picked up the win 58-38.
EHS held an early 6-2 lead after Kinsley Hines knocked down two threes. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the first playing to a 12-12 tie. Manhattan scored 13 straight spanning the end of the first and start of the second as the Indians pulled in front 29-18 at half. Manhattan grew the lead to 43-29 after three.
Assistant coach Brett Stewart knew Manhattan would take advantage of mistakes.
Kaylee DeWitt led Emporia with 16 points. Seniors Harley Smith and Hines each had six.
The Lady Spartans drop to 7-15 (1-8).
In the boy’s contest, Manhattan claimed the Centennial League title in the 71-60 win.
The Indians jumped out to a 13-10 lead after one. EHS claimed the second 14-11 to tie it up at half. Manhattan used a 7-0 run to start the third to build an 11 point advantage. Emporia closed the quarter well to cut it to 47-41. The Spartans cut the deficit to 58-57 in the closing 90 seconds, but the Indians scored the next nine points to pick up the win.
Evan Burns blamed turnovers in the second half for the loss.
Rylan Crowell and Harry Trelc each had 20 points.
EHS drops their fourth straight and fall to 15-7 (4-5).
Emporia travels to Junction City on Friday.
