Progress is visible as Olpe’s Fitness Park project continues to take shape.
Since November, work has centered on Olpe High School’s football stadium. Fitness Park Committee member and spokesman Tyler Schmidt says, pardon the phrase, a lot of ground has been covered.
Originally, the plan was for a natural grass field. That changed as donors stepped forward.
The scoreboard has been erected. Bleachers are going up and a press box will arrive in April.
Schmidt says the football field is getting most of the attention, but other aspects, including the fitness trail, have their own levels of importance.
The update on the Fitness Park Phase 1 construction during KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday followed another successful Green Machine Gala, which raised over $102,000 on Valentine’s Day. Funds from Green Machine are rolling into Phase 2, which will finish the walking trail, build a new multipurpose building and construct a long-awaited splash pad.
