Emporia High School placed seven wrestlers at the 5A State Tournament in Park City this weekend.
Finishing third at 120 lbs was senior Kensley Medrano. She finishes her career as a two time state placer and one-time state champion.
Finishing 5th at 170 lbs was fellow senior Alexa Castillo. Castillo also ends her career as a two-time placer and a former state champion at 235 in 2025.
Also on the podium for the Lady Spartans was Chloe Steele (100) and senior Yanelli Carranza who both finished 6th in their weight classes.
Carranza was battling injuries throughout the tournament having to injury default in both her championship quarterfinals and consolation semi final matches.
Lady Spartans Head Coach Shawn Russel was proud of how hard his team competed throughout the weekend.
On the boys side, junior Kolton Wyatt (113) and senior Jose Vargas (285) finished the tournament in 4th place. Vargas says he is proud to go out on the podium.
Junior Holden Timmons (138) finished in sixth place and scored 56 total points throughout the tournament.
Head Coach Brook Medrano says his team showed a lot of character throughout the tournament.
