Emporia girls basketball fell to Kapaun Mt Carmel Wednesday in Wichita in the First Round of Sub-State.
Kapaun used a 10-0 run midway through the first to take a 16-7 advantage. The lead grew to 31-19 as KMC connected on five first half threes. Kaylee Dewitt scored 12 of the 19 first half points for the Black and Red. The Crusaders pushed their lead to 25, 59-34 to start the fourth.
DeWitt finished with a team high 23. One of the best players in the state, Zoey Buckner scored 28. Bill Nienstedt thought his team played good defense against her.
The Crusaders finished the evening with 11 made triples. The loss ends Emporia’s season at 8-16.
